Harmony Oaks is in Hernando County, which is as near the middle of Florida as you can stand. Live oak, hardwood hammock, spring water and two lane roads, with fifty miles of distance from Tampa doing most of the work.
Where it is, roughly.
We name the county and not the road. There are people and animals on this property around the clock, so the address stays off the internet. If you end up staying with us, directions come from us directly.
What is actually out there.
Live oak with Spanish moss hanging off it, and resurrection fern running green along the limbs of nearly every tree out there. Open grass kept short, a gate at the tree line, a tire swing that has been there longer than some of the dogs.
The fern earns its keep twice. It is the best thing to look at up there, and it is also how we judge when the new grass needs water.
It is a working homestead rather than a park, so there is always something half done somewhere on it. We would rather you saw that than a version of the place that only exists in photographs.
The country around it.
Weeki Wachee is twelve miles west, and people paddle the river down from the spring most of the year. Manatees come up it in the winter. Beyond that it is state forest, spring runs, quiet water and small towns.
Guests who want to leave the property have plenty of reasons to. Guests who never leave it will not feel like they missed anything, which is the better compliment.
